CCUS along the Seine in France Synerzip - Axe Seine CCUS

Project description

Under the impulse of Synerzip / AEPJR and with the support of the Normandy region, of the Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME) and Haropa, Air Liquide, Cabot, Chevron Oronite, ExxonMobil, Lubrizol, Oréade (Suez), Sedibex (Veolia), Tereos, Total and Yara launched a CCUS prefeasibility study along the Seine waterway, Axe Seine in 2020.

The aim of the study was to:

  • Create a realistic deployment plan of CCUS along the Seine waterway
  • Estimate its cost based on a preliminary design
  • Anchor this project in the European CCUS projects’ network.

Carbon Limits conducted this study in partnership with Technip Energies and Enea Consulting. The team supported the industrial companies (mostly refineries, petrochemical and chemical industries) along the Seine in France in their assessment of a CCUS development in an industrial cluster

To reach the objectives set out for this study, the team of consultants conducted the following tasks:

  • Characterization of emissions and their future
  • Study of the utilization market for CO2 in the region
  • Storage opportunities for CO2
  • Implementation scenarios
  • Conceptual design
  • Economic assessment and carbon footprint
  • Identification of challenges to the deployment of CCS and roadmap
  • Synergies with other projects
