Project description

The Project was performed under the Norwegian Oil for Development (OfD) program. The principal objective of the Project has been to assist the Ministry of Oil in Iraq in building capacity and capability to address the challenges of flaring of associated gas. The Project has consisted of three main tasks: i) review and analyze the flare situation (specifically estimates of flare levels) and barriers to flare reduction investments, ii) identify and analyze gas utilization options and perform specific investment case studies, and iii) explore potential sources of financing for flare reduction projects with emphasis on opportunities that are likely to emerge as part of international climate policy and action to meet the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
