JI Project: Verkh-Tarskoye Oilfield (VTOF) Gas Utilization (Russia)

Project description

The purpose of LLC SP Sibgazpererabotka’s (SP SGP’s) proposed JI project was to build and operate a gas processing plant to process Associated Petroleum Gases (APG) from Verkh-Tarskoye Oilfield (VTOF), 100% owned by TNK-BP, to be operated by Novosibirskneftegas (NNG), thus reducing flaring of APG in the oil field and emissions of GHG to the atmosphere.

Carbon Limits assisted in successful JI determination of the project under JI Track 2 rules. Lacking approval from the Russian authorities (the first JI projects were granted approval in Russia years later) and due to the marginal economics of the project, the project was later cancelled and has not been implemented as foreseen.

For more information on the proposed project, see PDD document.
