N2O from Crop Residues Model
Project description
Crop residues affect the nitrogen (N) content of the soils, which, in turn, influences the amount of nitrous oxide (N2O) and ammonia (NH3) released to the air. The N content returned to soil notably depends on the amount and type of crop, as well as the crop residue management. These parameters need to be taken into consideration when building a model to calculate N content from crop residues.
A revised excel model for calculating N content from crop residues for the Norwegian agriculture has been developed by Carbon Limits. The model is built on the previously used model, developed by Bioforsk and operated by Statistics Norway (SSB). The model allows to calculate N content from different types of crop residues as well as the associated N2O and NH3 emissions per year.
