Project description

The main objective was to provide support to countries, local governments, and/or national oil companies (NOCs) that consider including methane reduction targets for their oil and gas upstream sector in their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) or decarbonization strategies.

The project initially had four modules on methane management that cover the importance of methane as a GHG, as well as a more detailed approach on detection, measurement, quantification and mitigation of emissions. The project grew to include two more modules:

  1. an overview module, aimed at decision makers and managers to have a general grasp of the topic with only one session, and,
  2. a second module on satellite detection.

In addition, the training was translated to Spanish, French, Russian, Arabic and Mandarin.
